Architectural Monuments and Parks
Some of the most beautiful and oldest buildings in Kaluga, as well as places for outdoor recreation in the city
Stone Bridge
Built at the end XVIII century, this bridge is the first stone viaduct in Russia, it crosses over the Berezuisky ravine, the natural line of defense of ancient Kaluga. In the past, the Kaluga Kremlin was located on the high bank of the Oka river, so the ravine with its small stream of the same name made it difficult to attack the Kremlin from the northwest. The length of the Stone Bridge is about 160 meters, its height is about 20 meters and its width is 14 meters.

Gostiniy Dvor
This artchitectural ensemble is quite typical for provincial Russian cities - in the past, it served as the city market of Kaluga. Gostiniy Dvor was built in the late XVIII-early XIX centuries, the author of the project was a local architect Pyotr Nikitin. Recently, the complex was renovated and restaurants, souvenir tents and the information center of the Ugra National Park were opened on its territory

Merchant Terenin's House (Registry Office building)
This house was built at the beginning of the XX century on Voskresenskaya Street, populated almost entirely by rich merchants of the time. Architects N. Novouspensky and H. Shevyakov took on the project. Despite the need for practicality, this beautiful Art Nouveau mansion was decorated with elaborate French Renaissance stucco and its walls were made of granite concrete.
But the intended owner of the house is still unknown, as Terenin did not build it for himself. There are two main versions: either it was for his son Mikhail Nikolaevich, who was supposed to receive the house as a wedding gift, or it was intended to become the merchant's daughter Lyuba’s dowry. Either way, the house did not find its original owner – Mikhail Nikolaevich died on the battlefield during the First World War and soon Lyuba met her untimely end as well. An employee of the Museum of Local Lore M. Kislitsyn writes about this in his article, citing as proof the memories of Terenin’s great-granddaughter.
As a result, a sewing workshop, a clockmaker’s, confectionary store “Boleslav” and many other endeavors used Terenin’s house over the years. After the revolution, the government seized the house and placed the city Committee of the Party and Komsomol headquarters there. In the 1990s, the mansion became home to the local Registry office, which was later renamed Kaluga Palace of Celebrations. In 2013 the building, as an object of cultural heritage of federal significance, was renovated.

The Holy Trinity Cathedral is located in the center of the park, the buildings of different public offices are on the periphery. There are also two monuments – one of Kuksha Pechersky and another of Saint and Blessed Lawrence; two fountains and green figures of bears and moose. Voskresenskaya st.
Voskresenskaya street is rich luxurious architecture of the XVIII-XIX centuries. Such films as "I'm looking for my destiny" (1974), "Other People's Letters" (1975), "White Bim, Black Ear" (1977) and many others were shot here. The street has a deep history with both Konstantin Tsiolkovsky and writer Boris Zaitsev.
Teatralnaya st.
After extensive reconstruction, Teatralnaya Street has really become the Arbat of Kaluga. It is one of the few streets that steel preserve the historical look of the city, but, at the same time, it manages to look modern and lively with its glass storefronts, ornate streetlights and ever present open-air art exhibitions.
In 2009, a new monument appeared on the pedestrian part of Teatralnaya Street. It was the “Zero Kilomiter” – a cast iron sign, embedded into the specially recreated historical pavement of the XIX.
Two years later, a statue of K. Tsiolkovsky was added to the ensemble of Teatralnaya Street. Here he is depicted with his favorite bicycle that he often used to get around the city. The composition was named “Dreams of the Sky” – Tsiolkovsky really looks somewhere up high, over the heads of pedestrians strolling along the "Kaluga Arbat"
